Tricella since 1865

An incredible discovery on eBay rewrites Tricella's history

Crazy things happen: a few weeks ago, we received a phone call from a customer who told us he had “spotted” a document related to us on eBay.

Curious, we went searching for it, and we never would have expected such a big surprise: in the blink of an eye, Tricella gained 23 more years!

The paradox is that usually people aren't happy about adding years — but when it comes to a historic business like ours, discovering that it was actually founded in 1865 instead of 1888 is truly wonderful news. That means 23 more years of excellence, experience, 23 more years of customers, of well-done work in the old-fashioned way, 23 more years of Milanese history that, like it or not, passed through our shop.

23 more years of passion for this work — a passion that Giuseppe (my brother) and I have cultivated for almost 30 years, that our parents carried forward from 1982 until the end of their days, that the Tricella family pursued from 1921 to 1982 (first with Mr. Carlo, then his daughters Antonia and Luisa), and that Mr. Paolo Albizzati (Mr. Carlo Tricella's principal) began back in 1865.

Here, then, is the document that allows us to state with certainty that “TRICELLA” was founded in 1865. It's a sort of printed advertisement, dated before 1921 (because it refers to the previous shop location — Via Cardinal Federico, formerly Via San Sepolcro) with a heading clearly stating the year Tricella began: 1865.

You should know that before this discovery, the earliest year we had documentation for — and always declared — was 1888. That's because one of the only documents to survive the fire caused by WWII bombings was an order dated 1888. Since it was an order, it was obvious the business was already up and running — but for how long? That we couldn't know, as municipal and chamber of commerce records don't go further back than the 1920s.

Well, now we know — and we're proud to say it loud and clear: Tricella since 1865.
As of today (August 2025), that means 150 years of activity. And as I write this… I think it's time to celebrate. Stay tuned!
